LOUIS BREWSTER on MOTORSPORTS: Danica Patrick ready to unveil her 'secret'

1 So Danica Patrick will announce her future driving plans today in Phoenix. In perhaps the worst-kept secret of recent times, there's a strategy to the method. She's going to confirm her NASCAR plans.

According to reports from the Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com , Patrick will make her debut in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series in the 2012 Daytona 500.

If there's a faint Brooklyn cheer in the background, it's from her fellow IndyCar Series drivers who tired of the will-she- stay-or-will- she-go drama of the past year.

The big cheer will come from NASCAR, which will have landed a popular driver, and from JR Motorsports, for whom she will drive full-time in the Nationwide Series in 2012. It's expected the team will sell all of its inventory on the Chevrolet.

If Patrick opts for selected Sprint Cup races with Stewart-Haas Racing next year, that organization will find little issues in attracting sponsors.

Patrick didn't quite conquer the IndyCar Series, in which she won a single race in seven years. She was the poster child of the open-wheel series and a media magnet. There rarely, if ever, was any advertising space available on her car.

She undoubtedly will be a boost for NASCAR in certain demographic areas, mainly among women. It remains to be seen how successful she'll be racing week in and week out against experienced veterans and young guns with the same, if not greater, talent.

2 At the recent Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Canton, Ohio, Jon Richter had the opportunity to chat with ESPN personality Chris Berman, the event's master of ceremonies.

"He said he had been reading up on my dad," Jon said in referring to the late Les Richter, one of seven in the Class of 2011. "He said the more he read, the more he wished he had known him."

Berman isn't the only one.

More than a year after his death June 12, 2010, Richter is receiving the accolades he richly deserved. He was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame 50 years after taking his last NFL snap.

ZORA ARKUS-DUNTOV LIVES… On Facebook!!!

Obviously Zora didn’t create his own Facebook page, Bentley Publishing, the publishers of his biography, “Zora Arkus-Duntov – The Legend Behind Corvette” by Jerry Burton created the page. If you’re a Duntov fan, this is a delight! The Facebook page is lots or comments, compliments, and photos – LOTS of photos that I’ve never seen before and I’ve been following this man for a long time. You’re in for a treat. Some people really are larger than Life. People such as John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Sean Connery, Elvis Presley, and many others, just seemed to shine brighter than most. They’re just “people” with the same foibles and shortcomings as the rest of us. They just do extraordinary things and have an unusual exuberance for Life that shines through their life’s work.

There was an AMA set of General Specifications of the Corvette. Sorry, I don’t recall the year, maybe ‘68 or ‘69. Plus, several issues of “Corvette News” magazine. (One of the many super cool things I’d learned about buying a Corvette was that owners got a free “Corvette only” magazine.) And it gets better. The letter said that they were putting my name on the copy list for Corvette News. So for several years, I was getting Corvette News and I didn’t even have a driver’s license yet! I’d show the latest issues to my car pals and they’d say, Perhaps he got to see a preproduction ‘97 C5 Corvette before he died, I don’t know. Unfortunately, he did not get to see the C5-R factory racing team in action, let alone seven first place class wins at Le Mans and the magnificent Z06 and C6 ZR1s. He may or may not have been active with the internet and blogging hadn’t yet caught on before he passed. Unfortunately, he didn’t get to see the Corvette really blossom.

(he thought the Motorama Corvette was the most beautiful car he’s ever seen), he didn’t style the Corvette (truth be told, if Zora had his way, the Corvette would have looked more like a Porsche!), and he didn’t personally design every detail of every performance part of the Corvette. No, Zora brought an unbridled passion for performance He was so excited about performance that he got those that worked with him excited. It was explained in Burton’s book that Zora managed with passion and excitement. he worked “with” people, they didn’t work “for” him.
