Reward for information on arson that killed Wenatchee boys

The head of the Seattle Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has announced a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fire that killed of two children in Wenatchee

Two boys, Ricardo Alejandre-Garcia , 6. and Mariano Alejandre-Garcia , 4, were killed and their father suffered serious burns in the Aug. 4 fire at a duplex. The father of the two boys, Israel Alejandre , was hospitalized at Seattle's Harborview Medical Center with burns suffered in the fire.

Wenatchee police have said the fire was arson and was gang-related.

"Someone intentionally set that building on fire and as a result two young children are now dead" ATF Special-Agent-in-Charge Kelvin N. Crenshaw said in a news release. "I am hard pressed to imagine a more heinous or despicable act. Innocent lives were lost from this senseless crime of violence and we are asking for the public's help in our effort to apprehend and convict those responsible."

East Wenatchee woman dies after receiving lung transplant | Empire ...

Heather Best, the 25-year-old East Wenatchee mother who underwent a double lung transplant four months ago, died Aug. 18 at University of Washington Medical Center.

She had been on life support since July 20 when her body began rejecting the transplanted lungs. Heather leaves an 8-year-old daughter, Mackinzie, who will live with Heather’s parents, Bobbie and Darrold Best of Wenatchee.

Heather suffered from cystic fibrosis, an inherited disease that can cause a sticky mucus to develop in the lungs, blocking the airways and making breathing difficult.

She was first diagnosed with the disease in 1994. Her condition worsened after getting swine flu two years ago. She was put on a waiting list to receive new lungs last spring, said Bobbie Best. A donor was found and Heather underwent a transplant April 13.

Heather was hospitalized about a month ago when her body started to reject the new lungs. Doctors said she had acute rejection and a condition know as acute respiratory distress syndrome, which is untreatable.

“Her dream was to be able to do things with her daughter, and run with her,” Bobbie Best said. “She’s gotten to do a few things, but she never totally recovered. She had a transplant to live and enjoy life, and it hasn’t turned out that way. It just doesn’t seem fair.”

Bobbie Best said her daughter put up a good fight until the end and was an inspiration to many in the hospital, she said.

“Heather touched a lot of people. I’m very proud of her,” she said. “I know she’s up there looking down on us right now and saying, ‘Hey, don’t worry about me. I’m running.
