Kids of Courage
Vallejo, California - A group of chronically ill kids and young adults, ages 6 to 25, have had the chance to visit two parks already on a weeklong adventure around Northern California. Last Wednesday, August 17, the group, Kids of Courage, and their camp counselors stopped by Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and had the chance to visit Californias Great America on Thursday, August 18, and the classic Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk yesterday, August 22. The Reporter reported "A sea of blue T-shirts and hats, a battalion of wheel chairs, and an army of volunteers who stopped by Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California last week. One of their biggest stops at the park was a specially arranged show featuring the parks killer whale, Shouka. The group of nearly 400 from Kids of Courage includes 150 chronically ill kids from 12 U.S. states, Canada, England, and Israel, along with their camp counselors, medical personnel, and volunteers from a local childrens hospital. Along with putting on special showings for the group, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom also paid for the entire days visit. Kids of Courage co-founder Stuart Ditchek told The Reporter , Our idea was to encourage a sense of confidence and independence for these children for many of them, its the first time theyve ever traveled without their families. The campers along for the journey have a vast array of chronic conditions, ranging from cancer to head trauma injuries, and anything in between. Three of the kids, Ravid, Perry, and Michael suffer from a condition which has shortened their life expectancy to just age 19, but all three have outlived that prediction. Perry told The Reporter Im having an armload of fun, while Ravid was pleased to be making new friends, and Michael enjoyed meeting the cartoon characters he recognized.Six Flags Marine World Vallejo Ca - News

Food.... is park food, not unedible but expensive. I usually get a burger. The lines are super slow so if you can avoid dead on lunch time it will help. They do have the buy the souvenier cup get refills for x deal (I think a dollar). You can't bring food in, but there are picnic tables in the parking lot, we have gone out and eaten a packed lunch in the car before. They do allow water in, but we have had kids have to throw away gatorade and even snacks before.
