Conservative blogger Brian Schoeneman insists that he is “a different kind of Republican.”

“I’m not involved in social issues,” Schoeneman, 34, said. “I spent much of my career in organized labor and I’ve worked in a variety of roles. I’m a guy who focuses on getting things done. We need a legislature that is effective in solving problems.”

Schoeneman is moving on from blogging to the blogged as he runs his own campaign for the Virginia House of Delegates in the 37th House District. The district covers portions of Fairfax Station, Burke and Centreville. Democrat David Bulova is currently representing the district.

Schoeneman has been a blogger on several Northern Virginia political sites since 2009. He has blogged for sites Too Conservative and Bearing Drift . He also started his own site, Common Sense .

“I liked the issues and getting to know what’s going on in Northern Virginia and after a year and a half of blogging, my wife and I were talking and I was complaining, and she said, ‘You’ve been talking about this for the last two years, when are you doing something about it?’” Schoeneman said.

Friends said that they were not surprised that Schoeneman would move on to a political path.

“The thing that strikes me the most about Brian is that he is willing to engage all newcomers. He is very always willing to get into a good discussion about things,” said Stephen Spiker, who also blogged for Too Conservative. “It’s not something you find online often.

SAN PEDRO, CA- Today, the Seafarers International Union (SIU) West Coast Region and United Industrial Workers endorsed Congresswoman Janice Hahn in her up coming re-election campaign for California’s 44th Congressional District. Today’s endorsement comes on the heels of a poll released last week showing Janice Hahn with a twenty-point lead over her nearest opponent.

“In this tough economy, we need more representatives in Congress who are willing to stand up to the extremist in Washington and fight for the working middle class,” said Herb Perez, Vice President of the United Industrial Workers. “Janice Hahn has always been there for working men and women, and we need to make sure she returns to Washington to fight for us.”

“Right now we are focused on keeping our current jobs and creating more good jobs at the same time. As a former Los Angeles City Councilwoman, and now as a Congresswoman, Janice Hahn has always had her priorities straight—focusing on job creation and getting our economy back on track,” Jeff Turkus, Port Agent of the Seafarers International Union (SIU) West Coast Region for the Port of Los Angles.

“I am proud to receive these endorsements today from the Seafarers and United and Industrial Workers because they recognize I am focusing on creating more good paying jobs here at home,” said Congresswoman Hahn.

Support from organized labor will play a huge role in determining who wins next year’s election. The Seafarers International Union West Coast Region and United Industrial Workers are both members of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor.  SIU represents merchant mariners and boatmen who sail aboard U.S. flagged vessels in the deep sea, the Great Lakes, and inland waterways.  SIU members are represented on board a wide variety of ships, including military support, passenger ships, barges, tugboats, and commercial trade.  The SIU’s membership includes a variety of workers, such as, workers in the engine departments, deck, and stewards.
