Facts Fall arts calendar heats up

It happens every year: A summer arts and entertainment drought gives way to a fall flood.
The festival season is so close you can almost smell the funnel cakes. Sultry sirens, man-eating plants and an Oscar winner are lined up on local stages. The Ocala Symphony Orchestra and Silver Springs plan to get creepy. Tribute artists will sample the songs of Jimmy Buffett, Frank Sinatra and Frankie Valli. The Amazing Kreskin is coming to town for Halloween.

The fall arts and entertainment calendar is hefty and promises to grow as the temperatures drop. Consider this issue of Go, then, your head start.

<p>Marion County's theater scene has changed bit in the last year. Ocala Civic Theatre remains the favorite for beloved stage staples, but the 60-plus-year-old theater company has been spicing up the bill a bit. </p><p>Last year, OCT did some creative trow dropping with “The Full Monty,” and its season opener next month is “Chicago,” the sexy, multi-Tony Award winning musical about murder, lovers, fame and celebrity fixations.</p><p>In smaller digs downtown, the Insomniac Theatre opened last year focusing on often-edgy, sometimes-original fare. Last fall had many members in fishnets and lacy undies for “The Rocky Horror Show.” Also, the young company in the historic Ocala National Bank building performed “Dog Sees God,” a dark, unauthorized comic-turned-tragic take on the old “Peanuts” gang. </p><p>This year on the Insomniac bill is “Little Shop of Horrors,” which, by the same, is no stranger to OCT's stage either.</p><p>The big stage news at the College of Central Florida?
