A $1.5 million construction project on the basketball and volleyball locker rooms in the Palumbo Center, which began in January and was entirely funded by private donations, added updated showers, larger lockers and new flooring.
A project in the PNC Recital Hall and accompanying lobby added new seating, carpeting and paint and refinished the stage floor with a $500,000 donation from PNC Bank, Fecik said.
The Duquesne Ballroom also received a technology upgrade. According to Lauren Turin, manager of Media Services, the project added $90,000 of audiovisual equipment, including a ceiling-mounted LCD projector, an electric screen and control system, eight flat panel monitors and a remote controlled video camera. Any group that wanted to use the media equipment in the Ballroom before the renovations used to have to pay hundreds of dollars, Turin said.

An enhanced audio system, which includes 20 speakers located along the perimeter of the Ballroom, was installed at a cost of approximately $10,000, according to Doug Cukta, assistant director of Student Involvement.
Other renovations included replacing the heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems in the Union, which cost $3 million.
The $170,000 renovations to Libermann Hall included creating and outfitting new classrooms and offices for the University. The Office of Events and the occupational therapy laboratory moved into Libermann Hall, one of Duquesne's newest buildings, located on Fifth Avenue. The Offices of Advancement Services and Telefund will move in by the end of August and September, respectively. Duquesne is currently working with DLA Architects on plans for the rest of the building.
