Wiesel 2 LeFlaSys AFF in 1/35...
News of a kit of the second variant on the Wiesel 2 chassis to come from Revell. This is the airportable radar vehicle which couples up with the Wiesel 2 Ozelot Surface-to-Air missile launchers. It is built on the Wiesel 2 chassis, which visibly differs from the earlier Wiesel 1 by having a lengthened hull over the earlier version, indicated by the extra roadwheel on each side. Originally developed for the Bundeswehr of West Germany in the 1970s, even when the government of the time decided it couldn't afford the development, Porsche continued the development of the Wiesel 1 as a private venture. In the 1980s the Bundeswehr did take deliveries of a number of variants, and they went on since then to buy some 179 of the longer Wiesel 2 as well. Designed to be an airportable vehicle, able to provide AA support for airborne forces, two of these will fit in the CH-53 transport helicopter used by the Bundeswehr and more in larger transport aircraft. They proved to be unsuitable for air-dropping by parachute after four early trials vehicles were destroyed in tests. Interestingly, the loaded vehicle is even lighter than the latest armoured versions of the American Hummer! The kit is moulded in a dark green plastic, and the tracks are single peice soft black vinyl, but nicely done. Surface detailing is neat throughout, and the roadwheels have a delicacy about them that captures the look of them well. The angular hull is made up from 7 panels and then there is a well detailed suspension to fit. Things like on vehicle tools have the brakets moulded onto them, in what I'd describe as the conventional way, and there are many other smaller detail fittings to fix around the hull. A smoke greanade unit fits to the front of the hull, and the radar unit on the back has protective guard rails and makes for a distinctive little vehicle.Canada Hummer Kit - News
