Benton County Searches For Escapee, Investigator Hit By Car
(Gentry, AR) -- Several law enforcement agencies are helping in the search for a man near Gentry. Police pulled over a vehicle on Highway 59 just before 9 p.m. Thursday.Police say 29 year old Mario Alberto Luna fled from an undercover Benton County Narcotics officer. The officer chased Luna across the four-lane highway and both were hit by vehicles. Luna continue to run while the officer was taken to the hospital with a broken rib. He was later released.
Arkansas police along with Washington County Sheriff deputies and police from Gentry and Highfill are searching for Luna near Dawn Hill, north of Siloam Springs.
Luna is a Hispanic man with short brown hair, brown eyes. He stands 5'6" and weighs 160 pounds.

Benton County Deputy Doug Gay says investigators are looking for a stolen maroon Saturn vehicle with Arkansas wildlife license plates. The license plate also has a woodpecker on it.

Damiean Sylvester was in law enforcement for 21 years, nine of them in Benicia.
It was a correctional officer and deputy with the Sheriff's Department Solano County, a patrol vehicle and bicycle patrol officer and a corporal with the Benicia Police Department. He was a member of the SWAT team Benicia and an undercover narcotics.
But he said that gave him the most satisfaction in his career has been the past two years, he teamed up with Mirco, one of the police dogs of the department.
Mirco, his German shepherd partner, is about 3 1 / 2 years, and was handpicked by Sylvester from three dogs recommended by Renee Lancaster Yolo K-9 Academy.
Sylvester wanted a dog that could move quickly to be at home with his family to be a dog patrol service. "I stuck with Mirco from the start," he said.
The pair went through 160 hours of post, in more than in May 2009. But before going on duty on June 1 this year, Sylvester had to learn a new language: Mirco had been trained in Germany.
On Mirco’s first day on duty, he participated in a car stop, Sylvester said.
“The passenger started to run,” and the officer warned the man that he would let loose the barking dog if the man fled.
“He decided not to run,” Sylvester said.
The officer found the man had a loaded stolen gun in his waistband.
Had the man tossed the gun while on the run, a child might have found it later, Sylvester said. “That would have been a tragedy.”
That was just the first of many events the pair has experienced since they first went on duty as a police team.
Some of it has been police work. Other times, it’s competition.
Mirco was involved last January in investigating copper wire thefts at Vista Point, Sylvester said. “He tracked a scent for half a mile,” Sylvester said. The suspect was hiding in a shed and refused to leave. “Mirco apprehended him.
