Agilysys cuts jobs in Solon, globally | cleveland.com
Information technology services company Agilysys Inc. is laying off 10 percent of its global workforce -- including a handful of people in Solon.
The company, which is based in Boca Raton, Fla., said earlier this month that it would cut approximately $17 million in expenses to boost its balance sheet by June 30. The majority of those cuts are being made by slashing jobs - about 150 of the company's 1,500-person workforce in the United States, Canada, China and the United Kingdom.
The layoffs are effective Monday, and employees are still being notified.
The layoffs affect 5 percent of the staff at the company's Solon office, said Shawn Turner, an Agilysys communications manager in Solon. That's about 10 of the 215 people who work at the office on Fountain Parkway.
The job cuts come just a week after Agilysys announced that it is considering "strategic alternatives" that could include selling the company -- and less than a month after the company's prediction that fiscal 2009 sales won't meet Wall Street's expectations. Agilysys also could sell assets, form new ventures or seek new capital.
Turner would not comment on the potential for more change.
"I can't comment on what alternatives we may be considering," he said. "There are a number of things that are under consideration. I can tell you that these layoffs are part of our broader strategy to eliminate some of our costs."
Turner also would not comment on which company departments are being cut and which other global offices are experiencing layoffs. Agilysys provides hardware, software and services to customers in the corporate and public sectors. The company was based in Mayfield Heights until 2006.
